About part-time/reduced timetables

All children of compulsory school age are legally entitled to receive a full-time education. A part-time or reduced timetable (below 25 hours a week) may be necessary in order to meet the specific needs of a student.

This should only be temporary and in exceptional circumstances. For example:

  • if a medical condition prevents a student from attending full-time education
  • as part of a planned reintegration programme after an extended period out of school

Notification process for part-time arrangements

Schools and education providers must notify Hackney Education of any part-time education arrangements that are in place.

This includes maintained schools, academies, free schools and independent schools.
