Educational Success: The Hackney Picture

The Hackney story

‘Educational Success: The Hackney Picture' is a new publication from Hackney Council.

This outlines key work across the education system in Hackney and how different partners have contributed in supporting schools across the borough to consistently achieve well.

In the 1990s, school performance was among the lowest in the country. Today it is among the highest, with almost all of our schools judged either good or outstanding by Ofsted.

We reflect on why the education system works so well in Hackney.

Livestream event

We held a livestream event on 31 January 2022. A panel of experts from the worlds of local politics, education and community discussed how Hackney supports schools to provide some of the best education in the country, and the most important lessons from our journey to success.

Key themes included:

  • How Hackney Education supports all its schools to achieve, improve and grow
  • The importance of collaboration in the local area
  • Why Hackney councillors continue to champion and fund a central service which ensures success across a range of types of schools and settings
  • What Hackney Education and the wider Council offers children, parents and education leaders and staff
  • The role of local governance
  • How our varied family of schools, including academies, work together
