This charity and social enterprise runs three programmes that provide non accredited training for disadvantaged 16-25 year olds. Participants must be eligible and able to access full time work.
Circle Collective: a streetwear and skate shop that trains young people interested in any career path with work experience in our retail shop which will show them how a business is run and will help overcome anxiety and confidence in the workplace. Participants are taught to develop and identify transferable skills (such as timekeeping, taking instruction, teamwork), receive training in customer service, stock management and cash handling and are supported into employment.
Navigating the Gig Economy: this new programme is designed to teach young people about ‘The Hustle’ of working multiple jobs, doing freelance or self-employed work (a ‘gig’) and knowing their rights and responsibilities. This includes creative young people keen to work for themselves in music, fashion or programming or those going into traditional gig-economy roles such as tradespeople, Uber drivers and delivery people. Participants attend informative workshops, create their own t-shirt with a social message and sell it in Circle Collective’s streetwear store, whilst managing a budget and marketing for the product like a real business. They will also access a wellbeing programme and tips and support around being self-employed.
Back to Your Future: designed to get disadvantaged young people into permanent employment. Participants receive CV support, employability and confidence-building workshops, mentoring, a wellbeing programme, links to employers and support into employment.
These programmes act as preparation for employment with further training such as apprenticeships 16-18, employment 18+ or future academic or vocational study. Young people aged 16 to18 should be aware of the requirements of Raising the Participation Age legislation.
