Part-time or reduced timetables

About part-time/reduced timetables

All children of compulsory school age are legally entitled to receive a full-time education. A part-time or reduced timetable (below 25 hours a week) may be necessary in order to meet the specific needs of a student.

This should only be temporary and in exceptional circumstances. For example:

  • if a medical condition prevents a student from attending full-time education
  • as part of a planned reintegration programme after an extended period out of school

Notification process for part-time arrangements

Schools and education providers must notify Hackney Education of any part-time education arrangements that are in place.

This includes maintained schools, academies, free schools and independent schools.

Notifications can be made via an online form. Please see links as below.

The online notification form provides schools with an interlink function enabling notifications to be accessed and supported by the LA SEND team (EHCP pupils) and/or the LA school improvement team (SIPs) for all other pupils.

In addition to this, our school improvement partners regularly discuss attendance and safeguarding matters, which includes conversations about pupils on reduced timetables. Our School Improvement Partners (SIP) visit maintained schools termly and academies twice per term.
