New City College Hackney Sixth Form alternative provision

Pre and post 16 provision

New City College Hackney Sixth Form (formerly BSix) is proud to be a comprehensive sixth form college offering courses in a wide range of subjects at all levels. We believe that all young people can achieve high standards. We are big enough to offer a wide breadth of courses but also small enough to give our students individual care, encouragement and attention.

This approach has become increasingly acknowledged in the education sector. It is reflected in the string of awards given to the college in recent years. Our students also appreciate the quality of the everyday classroom experience and share our commitment to equality and diversity.

The college is a safe, stimulating and exciting place to study and work. It is a place dedicated to the highest possible standards and success for each and every one of its students.

The college has an excellent support department. This includes student support officers, who work directly with students who have been identified as having specific needs and also student achievement officers who work within departments to provide extra support for all students.

In addition we believe that we should provide our students with the right platform to achieve academic success and professional experience. Our ‘Student Ambassador’ initiative enables them to acquire professional experience and skills allowing them to prosper both personally and professionally.

14 to 16 provision

We offer accredited education provision for Key Stage 4 school pupils, aged 14-16. The courses we offer provide knowledge, experience and the vital employability skills required by employers.

Our aim is to re-engage young people and motivate them to achieve and progress onto Further Education, employment or an Apprenticeship.

Offering a highly inclusive, safe environment that fosters a culture of mutual respect and tolerance for students and staff, our provision offers BTEC qualifications.

We interview each student so that we can advise and guide them to the right course for them. Students can choose subject areas according to their interests, abilities, and intended career aims. An individual learning plan is prepared and carried out within well-equipped workshops and classrooms.

Year 10 and 11 students, who are home-educated can access GCSE and pre GCSE part-time provision of up to 15 hours per week. The programme supports parents and carers with home learning by providing an aspirational and stimulating curriculum which makes learning interactive and enjoyable, leading to excellent outcomes.

Teachers are fully qualified subject specialist teachers with significant experience of teaching 14 to 16 year olds with a proven track record of delivering the curriculum within a year. There is no charge for the course and exam fees are fully covered as part of the programme of study.
