Appealing a school's decision
If you have applied for a school place and been unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal against the school's decision.
The link to the appeal form you need to complete will be included in your outcome email.
Appeals for reception, year 1 and year 2
In England, infant class size legislation limits the number of pupils in a class to a maximum of 30 children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2, when taught by a single qualified teacher.
Please be aware that infant class size appeals differ from other school admission appeals because the panel is limited on the circumstances in which an appeal can be upheld. The panel can only review the decision to refuse admission and whether it was as a result of an error and/or was unreasonable. The panel can't consider personal circumstances for a place in your preferred school.
Appeals for City of London Academy, Shoreditch
Appeals for City of London Academy, Shoreditch Park must be lodged with the school directly. Visit the City of London Academy, Shoreditch Park website for further information.
What happens next?
Once your appeal has been submitted, you will be given a date for your appeal hearing at least ten days in advance.
Your case will be heard by a panel of three impartial members of the public but the panel will not give their decision at the hearing. You will receive the result of your appeal in writing usually within five school days, but this may be longer in the busy summer period.
The decision of the panel will be legally binding and if your appeal is successful your child will be given a place at the school. If your appeal is unsuccessful, your child will not be given a place but you will still be able to put their name on the school’s waiting list.
